Texas A & M University Mitchell Physics BuildingTexas A & M University Mitchell Physics Building

The new Texas A & M University Mitchell Physics Building will provide approximately 197,232 sq. ft. of floor space for teaching and research related to various aspects of physics. This is a $57 million construction program designed to help move Texas A&M into the front ranks of fundamental physics and astronomy. Vaughn and Alpha teamed up in the preconstruction phase of this project creating details for the challenging window systems and cavity wall conditions. Alpha provided the services for the installation of the expansion joint systems, sheet membrane air barriers, firestopping, sheet metal flashings, and the exterior building sealants.

The Texas Woman's University opened its new Institute of Health Sciences-Houston Center in August, 2006. Located at 6700 Fannin in the heart of Houston's world renowned Texas Medical Center, the new Houston Center is a 10-story, 202,000 sq. ft. "campus in one building" that was funded at no cost to the state through an innovative public/private partnership that has raised nearly $40 million for the new building. Currently, more than 1,300 students majoring in nursing, physical therapy, library science, health care administration, occupational therapy and nutrition are enrolled at the TWU Houston Center. The building was designed by Kirksey Architects and built by Vaughn Construction, both of Houston. Alpha provided the services of the installation of the bentonite below grade waterproofing, bituminous damp proofing, membrane flashing, and the exterior and interior building sealants.

Austin, TX

The University of Texas at Austin Biomedical South Expansion is a 6-story, $14 million, 40,000 square foot addition to the existing Cockrell School of Engineering. The expansion will provide quality laboratory research space for the College of Pharmacy as well as teaching laboratory space for the College of Natural Sciences. Alpha came together with Vaughn to provide the installation of all damp proofing, rigid insulation, firestopping and spray applied fireproofing. This building is currently under construction, but work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.
